SERIES: Judges

Cycles

SERMON FROM JANUARY 5, 2020

Pastor Dan Brenton begins 2020 with a new series from the book of Judges. There we see a common problem we face even today: a cycle of repeated unfaithfulness. There is only one solution: a Savior

Cycle 2

SERMON FROM JANUARY 12, 2020

"Who am I and how can God use me?" That is a question many of us ask when we look at God's mission and where we fit in it. What we see is that it is a question is one of the oldest one used by the Evil One when trying to combat God's purposes.

Continuing in our series in Judges, Pastor Dan Brenton looks at the story of Ehud from Judges 3. There we see how God turns what may seem like an imperfection into a strength.

Your weaknesses can be used by God in a profound, good way. Trust Him.

Cycle 3

Sermon from January 19, 2020

Sin often comes into our lives looking harmless. We assume it will be different for us, but it never works out that way.

As we continue our series in the book of Judges, Pastor Dan Brenton looks at another judge for the people of Israel, this time from Judges 4. We see how God's people fall back into bad habits and fall away from God until they need rescuing, this time by Deborah and Barak.

We are most vulnerable in those quiet times when we think things are going well. Instead, we at risk of losing sight of where we should be in our relationship with God. It's the Gospel that renews us every single day, not just for one time.

Due to a power outage on January 26, we do not have the recording of Judges: Cycle 4

Cycle 5

SERMON FROM FEBRUARY 2, 2020

"People are quick to trade their freedom for sausage." In the book of Judges we see people who return to the tyranny they cried out to be rescued from while forgetting God's goodness in their lives. This is our story. We are own worst enemy. We need a Savior.

As we continue our series in Judges, Pastor Dan Brenton looks as Judges 9 and the downfall of Gideon's family and the people of Israel. What we see that once we ease our way into sin it becomes a habit that becomes a downward cycle.

Cycle 6

SERMON FROM FEBRUARY 23, 2020

Continuing our series in Judges, Pastor Dan Brenton looks at Judges 11 and the story of Jepthah.

What can we learn from this truly puzzling tale in yet another episode of Israel's cycle of unfaithfulness? What we know is that, despite our failure and flawed obedience, God is still faithful to his purposes.

Cycle 7

Sermon from March 1, 2020

The story of Samson is a familiar one and a prominent one. It covers four chapters in Judges. What are we to take away from it?

Pastor Dan Brenton, continuing a series in Judges, looks at the story in five parts. We see that Samson's story continues the story of the decline in Israel that has been taking place throughout the book of Judges.

We also see that when we rely on our own strength, even with God-given gifts, we are doomed to fail. But we only succeed when we humble ourselves before God.

When Home Is Neglected

SERMON FROM MARCH 8, 2020

The book of Judges tells the story of a nation that, in turn, listens to God, strays from God, suffers at the hand of God, cries out to God, and then is rescued by God. This cycle repeats over and over.

In the latest message in a series, Pastor Dan Brenton looks at an odd account near the end of the book and what it says not only about the people of Israel at the time but also about our current culture. So goes the family, goes the church, and the culture. We need God not only in our hearts but in our homes.
